10 WWE Storylines That Turned Into Real Life Shoots
7. Jeff Hardy's Demons
It was impossible for the themes of substance abuse and addiction not to feature prominently in Jeff Hardy's 2009 feud with CM Punk, which pitted a man whose proclivity for "partying" was an open secret against someone with a staunch and outspoken commitment to clean living.
Punk accused his opponent of lacking discipline and choosing an easy path in life instead of embracing its challenges head-on (richly ironic and dramatically intriguing, given that the Straight Edge Superstar had originally pinned Hardy after a Money in the Bank ambush).
It turned out that Punk's misgivings about the Charismatic Enigma's reliability (or lack thereof) weren't exactly unfounded: two years or so later, Jeff turned up at TNA's Victory Road "too intoxicated to wrestle", and had to be pinned inside 90 seconds by less-than-impressed Sting.
