10 WWE Storylines That Were Based On Real Life
3. Bret Hart Wants To Put Montreal Behind Him
"Oh no," you're probably thinking, "they're talking about Montreal again".
That's a forgivable grumble, because the events of 1997's Survivor Series have been written about ad nauseam. Still, it'd be impossible to look at WWE storylines based on real-life events without including what happened between Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon, especially years later in 2010.
On the comeback trail and looking for closure, Bret patched things up with Michaels and wanted to do the same with McMahon. In-keeping with his ruthless character, Vince kicked Hart in the nuts and started wheels in motion for a (rather flat, one-sided and disastrous) match at WrestleMania XXVI.
In short, Bret's genuine torment almost 13 years earlier had been turned into a cash-grabbing quick fix for 'Mania. Had the match taken place years earlier, or Hart been able to bump at all, it might have been fun. By 2010 though, it was a bad idea to dig up a storyline some fans had long-since grown bored of hearing about.
