10 WWE Superstar Gimmicks That Nearly Turned Out So Differently

1. Repo Man

The Repo Man was one of those gimmicks from the early 1990s that was so awful he wound up a cult favorite as a result. Portrayed by tag team great Barry Darsow, the Repo Man was exactly what he sounds like. He was dastardly and devilish villain who would sneak around repossessing potential rivals' personal effects, essentially starting feuds with them as a result of his actions. During the infancy of Monday Night Raw, he repossessed "Macho Man" Randy Savage's trademark hat, igniting a rivalry that played out between them over a few weeks before Savage soundly dispatched of his nemesis, as he should have. Dressed very much like a cartoon character of sorts, the Repo Man sported a silver singlet with black tire marks and an old bandit mask typically reserved for Saturday morning funnies. Darsow was over-the-top in his portrayal of the character and it helped distract from the fact that the gimmick was hot garbage.
The conceptual artwork for the character saw him undergo several incarnations before settling on the version fans were introduced to early in the new decade. At one point, he was incredibly colorful, with a bright red overcoat and blue trim around an otherwise black singlet. The mask remained intact and around his neck was a necklace of keys. While some may prefer the color as opposed to the silver and black of the finished product, it simply does not make sense. Repo Man's entire gimmick revolved around him sneakily stealing people's property. How can he be expected to sneak anywhere with a fire engine red jacket and turquoise knee pads? It is not logical and made very little sense in relation to the story being told. Another version, which saw him without a mask, clad in red and gold and with long hair, worked even less than the early rendition.
