Eddie Guerrero has one of the most heartwarming, yet bittersweet comeback stories in professional wrestling. For years, he battled drug and alcohol problems, which he eventually conquered to become the WWE Champion. The success would be all too short as on November 13th, 2005, Eddie Guerrero died of heart failture in his hotel room. It could have ended a whole lot sooner. On New Year's Eve, 1998 he and his wife Vickie held a party but got into a fight. Eddie stormed out and went to buy eggs and alcohol. On the way home, he drank some Renutrient, which was a legal form of GHB many wrestlers partook in at the time. As he said in his book, Cheating Death, Stealing Life, usually two caps would be enough to send him to sleep, but on this night he took five and then got behind the wheel. The next thing Eddie remembers is being fussed over by doctors who told him he'd been in a car accident, his leg was in bad shape and that they needed permission to start surgery immediately. Eventually, Eddie discovered that when the car crashed he was going upwards of 130 miles per hour and he went straight up an embankment like a ramp. Eddie fractured his collarbone, compressed several discs in his spine, broke his right hip and shredded the nerves in his left leg. Worst of all, his liver was lacerated so badly the doctors recommend Vickie get Eddie's affairs in order. Thankfully, Eddie recovered and a year later he'd leave WCW for the greener pastures of the WWF.
