10 WWE Superstars Who Gambled On A New Look

8. Dolph Ziggler's Brown Hair

Whether through the inattentive booking of the era in which he broke through - or the invited comparisons to his heart-on-sleeve inspirations - Dolph Ziggler has struggled to claim a real, unmistakeable identity unique to himself. It's impossible to look at him without being reminded of Mr. Perfect and or Shawn Michaels, and his bland, universal motivation, which isn't too dissimilar to the rookies of NXT season one, doesn't do much to distinguish him.

Perhaps that is for the best, on the evidence of his very brief flirtation with a new look in 2011.

His valet Vickie Guerrero described him as the "new and improved" Dolph Ziggler, but in reality, he only really morphed from derivative to punishingly generic by wandering into the Where's Waldo Warehouse of Florida Championship Wrestling.

The look didn't take, and Ziggler rebounded by growing out the tight blonde curls that accentuated his big-bumping exploits. He went on to enjoy an excellent midcard career marred, somewhat, by the persistent idea that he had to be something more - or else.

A bonus entry follows for his late-this-decade tweak, in which he reinvented himself with a hair metal aesthetic, confusing in the process both genre and spelling: 'Megadeath'.
