10 WWE Superstars Who Got Too Much Too Soon

4. Drew McIntyre

Looking at him now, in all of his muscular and sexy glory and on the cusp of usurping Roman Reigns, it’s hard to ever imagine Drew McIntyre not being a top guy. It’s even more difficult to imagine him being an absolute jobber, which is what he ended up as at the end of his first run in the company.

To be fair, upon his debut in 2009, McIntyre was immediately thrust into a no-win situation. By then, the bloom was very much off the rose with the WWE process, with fans beginning to reject what the company was offering them. When Vince McMahon personally introduced McIntyre as ‘The Chosen One’, and proclaimed him a future WWE Champion, the fans had a reason to reject him.

2009 McIntyre was a different animal to today’s ‘Scottish Psychopath’, and his clean shaven, slender build made him look better suited for a stint next to Max Dupri than as the next face of the company. An uninspired WWE Intercontinental Championship reign was the highlight of his run, and he left the company as a 3MB jobber.

This is a glaring example of the tell don’t show, which is something WWE has been guilty of numerous times, especially with Roman Reigns’ years of babyface derision.

McIntyre has gone on to prove he is, without a doubt, one of the top guys in the industry, but by telling the fans that before he had shown them, WWE set him up to fail.
