You might automatically assume that a man of Hogan's popularity and (former) prestige would be virtually indispensable, at least, by any company with as much interest in generating cash as WWE. But with that popularity and prestige comes an ego the size of Africa - and that leads to continental friction.

In the eyes of Vince McMahon, not even the hyper-inflated Hulkster was bigger than the company, and he was more than happy to give him the big boot. Though Hogan had sat out his contract in 1993, his next departure ten years later was less voluntary. Unhappy with his payoffs, and failing to see the funny side of the 'Mr. America' character, Hogan took it up with the boss. Vince had a simple solution: he sacked him.

It was the same story when Hogan returned two years later. Egomania still ran wild, leading to his preposterous match opposite Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam 2005. Another falling out between Hulk and the honcho led to his second dismissal. The town just wasn't big enough for the two of them.

When the frost eventually thawed in 2014, Hogan's days in the ring were long behind him. The Immortal One's lust for attention made him the perfect pitchman for the newly launched WWE Network. Unfortunately, he drew just a little too much attention onto himself, following the emergence of a leaked video tape in which he uttered a number of unrepeatable racial epithets. Unwilling to be tarred by association, WWE took the strictest stance possible: Hogan was promptly fired, and all traces of his existence were quickled removed from the company archive.
