10 WWE Superstars Who Turned Heat Into Magic

9. Bobby Heenan

The wrestling manager is a bit of a dead art, and that’s partially due to Bobby Heenan. No one in their wildest dreams will ever do the job as well as The Brain. Heenan may have not been taking the big bumps, stepping in the ring against deadly foes, or even keeping in shape. But his ability to whip up a crowd through sheer force of his motor mouth means his importance can’t be overstated.

Heenan had the cowardly, manipulative manager character down to a tee, and he’d make a heel of anyone who came under his banner. Perhaps his greatest project was Andre The Giant. The colossal Frenchman was always a big draw, but as a face, his lack of mobility and mic skills were a hindrance. Paired with The Brain, he became the terrifying monster we best remember. Heenan’s heat magnetism was a vital part of Wrestlmania III’s showdown between Andre and Hulk Hogan. And when the Giant finally turned on his slave driving manager three years later, the crowd lost their minds.

The man lovingly known as “The Weasel” simply loved to be loathed. Even as a commentator, he would forever back the baddie, and would do this job better than most have done it since. He’ll never be replaced or bettered.
