10 WWE Superstars Who Went From Hero To Zero In A Heartbeat
6. Otis
In fairness to WWE, Otis really shouldn’t have won the Money In The Bank briefcase in the first place. The cult favourite was doing fine work on the main roster with tag partner Tucker and on his own, but remained primarily a comedic figure (albeit one with genuine wrestling chops). The notion of Otis cashing in his briefcase to become the company’s top champion was fanciful.
Still, this was the angle WWE booked, and once they put Otis in that elevated spot, they instantly panicked. Instead of taking the time to maneuver Otis into a position where he could believably snatch the title, or at least give it a shot with a chance of winning, they upped the comedic ante even further, had him drop the briefcase to, of all options, The Miz, and split him from Tucker.
Where are they now? Well, The Miz transitioned the belt to Bobby Lashley, and Otis is basically back where he started, only with short hair and fewer catchphrases. There’s a lot to like in his partnership with Chad Gable - the pair can wrestle, there’s no denying it - but Alpha Academy feels pretty far down on the totem pole of WWE tag teams, and given the complete lack of care they have for that division, that’s sadly saying something.
