10 WWE Superstars You Never Knew Wrestled In Japan
5. The Great Khali
WWEs current go-to comic relief character was given a huge push by New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2001. New Japan was no stranger to booking freakishly large wrestlers with minimal technical skill as it had booked the former Giant Gonzales on tours in 1994 and 95. Wrestling as Giant Singh, Khali teamed with the equally massive Giant Silva as Club 7. The team was the tallest tag team in professional wrestling history with an average height of 7 foot 2 ½ inches and they went about destroying the home grown NJPW talent, even winning a 4-on-2 handicap match in the Tokyo Dome. Khali, who was even LESS polished and experienced than he is now, entered some truly terrifying performances (for a number of reasons). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBMMIdyAFKo One such performance was a match at the famed Budokan Hall in Tokyo when he collided with former partner Giant Silva after the two had a falling out. The match was one of the most uncoordinated in professional wrestling history and drew noticeable laughter from the usually polite Japanese fans. It was, to borrow a phrase from Jim Ross, bowling shoe ugly. Khali lost and then disappeared from NJPW for good.
