It's strange to say that a team that had been together for nearly six years by the time they first parted ways was broken up "too soon", but mind you, The Dudley Boyz had been around in WWE for only three years before they were unceremoniously split up in March 2002.

By that point, there were still many more tag team titles to be won by Bubba Ray and D-Von, either on Raw or SmackDown. Instead, Vince McMahon had it in his mind that it would be better to break up a majority of the longer-standing tag teams. Yes, we had seen The Dudley Boyz vs. The Hardy Boyz what felt like a thousand times over the course of those three years, but why not just place them on separate shows?

WWE attempted to push Bubba Ray and D-Von as singles acts, but failed miserably. Bubba Ray floundered for the better part of 2002 while D-Von's reverend gimmick was destined for undercard purgatory. Less than a year after their split, they reunited at Survivor Series in Madison Square Garden to a huge pop and went on to dominate the tag team ranks on Raw and SmackDown for the next three years.

Their 2010 breakup in TNA was long overdue, but it was premature to split them up in 2002.
