When the duo who used to be known as Fergal Devitt and Kenta debuted in NXT, it was to do battle with the former NXT Tag Champions The Ascension. Hideo Itami would be the first on the scene to challenge Konnor and Viktor, being overwhelmed and outnumbered be his lonesome.
Finn Balor would eventually join Itami and they would ultimately defeat The Ascension. This formula successfully introduced them into NXT so why not do something similar for their main roster debut?
There would be more pressure to have them defeat whichever team happens to be the champions. A very angry internet would arise if they were fed to The New Day on their debut. But if they did conquer the tag division it could be a positive step in elevating the worth of the lower priority titles.
