10 WWE Title Reigns That Never Lived Up To The Victory
1. Kofi Kingston (2019)
Kofi-Mania may have been the last time the WWE Universe willed something into existence. It’s wonderful that it was against ‘The New’ Daniel Bryan, who had first-hand experience of just how much momentum a movement can gather.
After an unfortunate injury ruled Mustafa Ali, who was in line for the push of his life, out of the Elimination Chamber, midcard stalwart Kofi Kingston was called up in his place. In a gauntlet match on SmackDown, Kofi put on the performance of his life and did something many people can’t.
He won the crowd over.
Sure, he and the New Day have always been popular, but almost instantly, the fan base realised a guy as talented as Kofi had never been given a true shot at the main event scene. Cue the rise of Kofi-Mania, which battled against the odds and an oppressive Vince McMahon to see Kingston compete against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35.
The 'Mania victory was an emotional moment, as watching Kofi celebrate with his kids whilst his New Day brethren wept, is one of the most powerful moments of the last few years.
Unfortunately, like so many before, Kofi Kingston was never considered the real main event, and his six-month reign had average feuds with Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton, before he was eaten alive by Brock Lesnar in less than 30 seconds.
Kofi and the WWE fans deserved more. At least we can remind ourselves of the incredible moment, when the Usos forfeited their shot at the New Day. It’s genuinely one of the most underrated and well earned WWE moments of all time.
