Austin's dispensing of hair-trigger violence and coarse language made him stand out in the watered-down WWE of his day, and he contrasted beautifully with the understated, proud Bret Hart. Their submission match at WrestleMania 13 is probably the greatest match in the event's history, not only for the action, but for the double turn they had managed to pull off with a master's touch. The crowd sensibilities had drastically changed, and Austin was headed for a babyface run, warts and all. Hart devised a finish that would see a hopelessly-bloodied Austin struggle in Hart's Sharpshooter, but refuse to submit, instead passing out. When all of Chicago applauded gutsy Austin as he limped to the dressing room, he was a made man, then and there. It was just a matter of when, not if, he'd get the big belt.
