10 WWE WrestleMania Matches That Failed To Live Up To The Hype

3. Brock Lesnar Vs. Dean Ambrose - WrestleMania 32

The initial idea seemed to be a showdown between Brock Lesnar and Bray Wyatt, but injury and fan apathy scuppered that plan. Lesnar needed a replacement opponent, and who better than Dean Ambrose? Lesnar vs. Ambrose went from a match that nobody had thought of to an obvious classic. Lesnar generally has his better matches with scrappy underdogs, and Ambrose was the sort of performer who would sacrifice his body for his art. This should have been incredible.

The use of the word ‘should’ there tells you how this went. Rumour has it that Brock had absolutely no interest in the match and therefore gave the bare minimum of effort, not bothering to put together any interesting spots and simply being happy to throw a couple of suplexes and collect his pay. It was disrespectful to the industry, but mostly it was disrespectful to Dean Ambrose.

Jon Moxley’s post-WWE run is yet another indictment of Vince McMahon and his creative team, as the current AEW World Champion has quickly become one of the hottest stars in the world of professional wrestling. Allowing Lesnar to shrug his way through a WrestleMania match with Moxley was a big mistake, one that failed to deliver on the biggest stage.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
