In the world of professional wrestling, few things come close to WrestleMania. The Showcase of the Immortals may have become depressingly bloated in recent times but it remains the dream for most, the stage on which careers are made and legacies cemented. As fans, it has become the totem around which the pro wrestling year is organised.

This is why it is so bloody infuriating when WWE decides to go all ‘WWE’ on everyone and anger their fans. Filling an arena with vitriol and anger after the main event of some C show like Great Balls of Fire or Capital Punishment is one thing, but WrestleMania? This is when stories end, this is when the good guys prevail, this is supposed to be pro wrestling at its most magnificent.

The sad trend is that WWE is angering its crowds more as years go by. WrestleMania history is full of matches that infuriated the fans, either through nonsensical finishes, plodding action, hugely insulting booking or Daniel Bryan being beaten inside 18 seconds. Might as well start there then…

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
