A dejected and battle-worn Big Red Machine actually removed his mask and handed it to Stephanie McMahon during an episode of Raw in October 2013, signalling that he had given up any lingering aspirations of being a top-level professional wrestler again.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the months that followed saw him ditch his trademark red and black ring attire in favour of a suit and tie. He even grew hair, and styled it in a conventional way - like he was an actual human being or something.

To be fair to Stephanie, though, it's not like Kane had much going for him before this either. The man has long been a magnet for nonsensical WWE storylines, particularly since unveiling in 2003. If they get a stupid idea, you can be pretty sure that Glenn Jacobs is going to be called in for a chat.
