10 WWE Wrestlers Vince McMahon Couldn't Control

1. Hulk Hogan

As professional wrestling's biggest star and the galvanising force behind WWE's explosion in the '80s, Hulk Hogan had an incredible amount of popularity to leverage against Vince McMahon. If 'The Hulkster' was presented with a situation he didn't like, he knew he had the power to twist Vince's arm into changing to a more favourable outcome, and he did so at every opportunity.

From Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin to Randy Savage and Jake Roberts, the list of wrestlers Hogan refused to put over is almost endless. His career history is rife with examples of selfish politicking, including his heinous WrestleMania IX squash of Yokozuna, plus the way he stole The Ultimate Warrior's spotlight at WM VI and Ric Flair's at the 1992 Royal Rumble.

McMahon knew that without Hulk, it was unlikely that WWE would have ever scraped mainstream acceptance, so he essentially let him do whatever he wanted. This waned as Hogan's drawing power declined in the early '90s, but for a while, Vince was largely under Hulk's control, rather than the other way around. Fortunately, this is no longer the case in 2017, as Hogan's post-Gawker WWE return is yet to materialise.
