Rhea Ripley has been an absolute juggernaut in her WWE career so far. The Australian swept all before her to become the first NXT UK Women’s Champion, before moving to NXT and dominating their women’s division as well. In the months prior to winning the NXT Women’s Championship, Ripley also starred on the main roster, defeating a variety of major stars including Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks. The rocket was well and truly strapped to her back.

That momentum continued into 2020, where she further established herself on the main roster in the wake of Charlotte Flair’s Royal Rumble win. In fact, using 15 matches as a qualifier, only Becky Lynch, The Fiend, Drew McIntyre and the Broserweights have a better win/loss record in 2020. Stretch that out to her entire NXT run, and Ripley has only suffered one televised singles loss since the summer of 2019.

It is the loss that stands out. Ripley tapped out to Charlotte at WrestleMania 36, losing her championship and her aura in the process. In the post-match, Ripley’s transition from snarling badass to whimpering babyface was complete, and reported work visa problems have robbed her of a title rematch. Even so, you can squash Aliyah, Chelsea Green and the rest as often as you like, it is only the frantic tapping in the face of the Figure Eight that is remembered.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
