Let's take a moment in this entry to mourn the WWE career of Mustafa Ali. Every time it seemed like he was on the verge of breaking through the glass ceiling, something managed to get in the way. In the case of his apparent Money In The Bank win in 2019, it was Brock Lesnar.

During the beginning of 2019, Daniel Bryan was pushing for a young star to emerge, and Mustafa Ali was the chosen one. He was due to face Bryan at WrestleMania 35 but an unfortunate injury to Ali, and the unexpected surge of Kofi Kingston, put those plans on ice. Later in the year, with his Mustafa shaved off, the newly dubbed Ali was inserted into the Money In The Bank ladder match alongside Andrade, Baron Corbin, Finn Balor, Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton, Ricochet and initially Sami Zayn before he was taken out with a kayfabe injury.

The match was super fun with some very entertaining and painful spots, like Finn bouncing on a propped up ladder courtesy of Andrade. Eventually the end of the match came with Ali alone in the ring at the top of the ladder. He was booked to win but before the match, Vince McMahon gave him specific instruction not to remove the briefcase.

Then came Brock Lesnar, who inserted himself into the match as Sami Zayn's replacement, took Ali out and won the briefcase for himself. From that moment, Ali was never as hot again, eventually finding himself leading the infamously bad Retribution.
