10 WWE Wrestlers Whose Patriotism Limited Their Potential

6. The Patriot

Despite sharing the same entrance music, no, Kurt Angle was never The Patriot under a mask. Rather, it was Del Wilkes, a pretty passable wrestler who could have been much more in WWE had he not been saddled with a pro-USA character that had a short shelf life in the late 1990s.

Any avid Attitude Era fans would remember The Patriot for his feud with Bret Hart and his, well, patriotism, but those who weren't fans at the time may not recognise the name. Quite frankly, he didn't do much in WWE, but he isn't really the one to blame.

He had an impressive physique and his in-ring ability was average, but the American mask limited what type of feuds he could have. Beyond a USA vs. Canada storyline with Hart, the character had no legs, and thus it came as no surprise when he was cut from the company at the onset of 1998.

The poor guy then had his theme song stolen from him by Angle, as if he hadn't been slighted enough! I thought integrity was supposed to be one of the 'Three I's'?
