As mentioned previously, if the legendary André the Giant was to ever be eliminated by somebody in a Royal Rumble, it would have to be for a very specific reason and lead to something meaningful. In that regard, the 1990 Rumble did a great job in how it treated André’s exit.

At that time, the Eighth Wonder of the World was one half of the WWF Tag Team Champions with Haku, having defeated Demolition for those belts only a few weeks before the Royal Rumble. With the plan being to switch the titles back to Ax and Smash at WrestleMania VI, one way to add further flavour to that rematch was by having Demolition and The Colossal Connection share some time in the ring during the Rumble match.

Shockingly, the combined might of Demolition managed to eliminate André, which was sold as a huge deal by the commentary team and was reacted to like a huge deal by the Orlando Arena crowd. Further stirring the pot, Haku would later eliminate Smash as these two teams lined up to do battle once again at that year’s Showcase of the Immortals - a match that not only got the WWF Tag Team Titles back on Demolition, but that served as the final televised match of André the Giant’s WWF career.
