100 Greatest WWE WrestleMania Moments
79. Zack Ryder’s IC Dream Comes True (WrestleMania 32)

WWE lore depicts WrestleMania as the kind of collective viewing experience that brings families together. At 32, the promotion opened their annual powerhouse with an embrace between teary father and son. Zack Ryder won the Intercontinental Title by hauling the belt down in a seven-man ladder match, then things got rather emotional when daddy dearest entered the ring for the Cardona's clan's very own 'Mania moment.
They'll remember this one forever. Guaranteed.
Ryder beat Stardust, Sin Cara, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler to etch his name into the event's history books permanently. KO was the reigning champ going in, but WWE's announcers did sterling work to predict that pigs would fly before he successfully retained his prize in the face of staggering odds. That proved to be true, but few called Zack putting a tick in the win column. If anything, it seemed far more likely that Zayn or Ziggler would score a win to kick the main card off with a bang.
This wouldn't be Ryder's only celebration on the grandest stage. In 2019, he and real life pal Curt Hawkins beat The Revival to win the Raw Tag-Team belts. That happened on the pre-show though, so it could never come close to kicking off WrestleMania proper by snaring one of the most prestigious championships going. This had to feel really, really good for Zack, and it was clear his dad was over the moon when watching his boy flourish from ringside.
Texas weighed in with a meaty pop, then Ryder got to snap a backstage pic with IC Title great Scott Hall. Say hello to the good guy!
