100 Greatest WWE WrestleMania Moments
48. Ronda Rousey’s Blistering Debut (WrestleMania 34)

In 2018, you could've been forgiven for thinking Ronda Rousey was the female coming of Kurt Angle. The former UFC badass made this pro wrestling lark look easy as she teamed with the Olympian vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in probably the best mixed tag-team match ever. Even Jim Cornette was singing Rousey's praises following the pay-per-view, and he hates everything! (OK, maybe not everything).
Those fretting about what Ronda pulling punches and working a submission heavy style in WWE rings would look like breathed a mighty sigh of relief as 'Rowdy' (inspired by the great Roddy Piper) looked every bit the main event megastar. Seriously, few had ever been this extraordinary during their very first pro match. This was also WrestleMania 34, so the brightest of bright lights were on. More experienced workers than Rousey have tanked under that kind of pressure, but she was on fire.
Angle, Hunter and Stephanie masterfully guided Ronda through every spot without making the match look like an awkward run through. It's pretty fair to say that Rousey would never be this great again. She had her moments, absolutely, but this debut was sensational stuff that charmed everyone watching into thinking the McMahons had found their golden ticket who'd surely elevate the women's division beyond their wildest dreams.
This isn't an in-depth hatchet job on the rest of Ronda's WWE career (across two stints) though. No, it's a celebration of the hottest of hot starts. She deserves a lot of credit for living up to the billing at 'Mania 34. There, Rousey was a blistering mix of Angle and Brock Lesnar.
