Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit were deemed "too small" to headline when they joined the WWF from WCW in 2000. Even Vince McMahon himself thought Guerrero was "tiny", and Jim Ross (who helped sign The Radicalz) has said repeatedly that he had a fight on his hands to sell any of the group as big stars. They'd be solid hands on the midcard and that was final.

Things changed.

By 2004, WWE softened its approach to physical size and agreed that both Guerrero and Benoit were world class workers who deserved full backing. At WrestleMania XX, Eddie retained his WWE Title by tricking Kurt Angle, then Chris won the old World Heavyweight Title in a triple threat main vs. Triple H and Shawn Michaels. The real-life friends had come a long, long way in just four years.

Look, it's understandable if some fans get uncomfortable about watching anything Benoit. That discomfort surely turns to raw emotion when they see Guerrero out there living it up. Contrasting emotions would come soon enough; Guerrero sadly died in 2005, and Benoit's life came to a horrifying end when he murdered his wife and young son before committing suicide in 2007.

Nobody knew any of that would happen when confetti fell right at the end of 'Mania XX. There, good pals toasted their respective successes at the top of the World Title mountain, and fans were eager to lap it up. If you can't celebrate Benoit full stop, that's fair, but this was a historic WrestleMania moment.
