WrestleMania VII's retirement match between Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior was a super slick display in how one or two background story beats can make the segment even better. Before the bell, Bobby Heenan said he'd spotted Miss. Elizabeth in the crowd. WWF cameras caught Liz looking on concerned, which was interesting. Her romance with Savage had broken down, but here she was on hand for a potentially-career ending 'Macho Man' occasion.

That one reveal sold the love these two people still had for one another without either saying a word.

Warrior entered arguably his finest in-ring performance opposite Savage, then took his leave after winning. That gave Sensational Sherri the floor to attack Randy for losing, which in turn caused Elizabeth to leave her seat and get physical for one of the first times ever. She just couldn't sit back and watch Savage get professionally heartbroken then personally abused by somebody who was clearly using him. Aah, such wonderful storytelling.

Liz cried after that, and Savage embraced her. It was heartfelt, genuine and just...lovely to see such a thing happen. The couple's relationship might've been strained behind the scenes, but WWF fans dearly wanted to see them back together on camera in 1991. The company made that a reality at WrestleMania.

This led to a memorable wedding on pay-per-view at SummerSlam '91, and would be one of the last hurrahs Randy and Liz enjoyed together onscreen in the federation. Gooey romance novel stuff like this shouldn't have worked as well as it did on a cartoonish wrestling show like the WWF's, but fan sentiment towards Miss. Elizabeth and Savage was legit.
