One of the greatest debuts in the history of professional wrestling, plain and simple. For what felt like ages, Paul Bearer had promised to show the world the true Undertaker, had exposed his tragic family past and informed the Deadman that his brother, Kane, was alive and well.

Okay, not well, but alive at least.

Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had battled each other bloody in the first ever Hell in a Cell match, and Taker had managed to put himself in a position where he was just a Tombstone Piledriver away from victory.

Before he could deliver the move however, the arena went dark. Creepy organ music played, and the rest is history.

Kane had arrived. Vince McMahon announced his arrival in a way that still gives chills to this day, and I still remember being in shock as the Devil's Favourite Demon ripped the door off the cage and came face to mask with his own flesh and blood.

Possibly shocked into submission, Taker couldn't put up a fight as Kane hit him with his very own move, allowing Michaels to pick up the win.

Almost two decades later this is a thrilling moment to watch, the birth of a character that would go on to become one of the cornerstones of the company.

Little did we know at this time that Kane would eventually become a corporate stooge, visit anger management classes and electrocute Shane McMahon's testicles...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
