The main event of the second night show was Antonio Inoki vs. Ric Flair, but if Inoki had gotten his way, The Nature Boy would not have been involved at all: Inoki originally wanted Hulk Hogan to be his opponent in the main event of the biggest show in wrestling history. Bischoff subsequently asked Hulk, but later revealed that he may as well have been asking the Hulkster to 'row to Pluto'.

When one stands back and thinks about it, Hulk Hogan was obviously the number one choice. This was 1995, after all, and in 1995 there was no more American hero than the leader of the Hulkamaniacs himself. His entrance music is basically a song about how American he is, after all.

The North Korean attitude to Americans may be somewhat negative now, but 20 years ago it was still positively vitriolic. There simply could have been no bigger heel than 'Real American' Hulk Hogan.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
