The worst kept secret in pro wrestling, Cody Rhodes has now finally, officially returned to WWE after departing AEW in February.

Ahead of his impending 'shock' re-debut for the company at WrestleMania 38, many fans were fearful of what sort of Cody Rhodes we'd see. If this year's Showcase of the Immortals is anything to go by, we will indeed be getting that Cody Rhodes.

While it's easy to just see Cody dressed as we all know and love/hate him at 'Mania, the bigger meaning of this Rhodes appearance is that it confirms WWE plans to showcase the true American Nightmare that we saw in AEW and even before that in the likes of Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Some were fearful that we may see the return of Stardust, the we may get a glimpse of Dashing, or that WWE would give Cody a makeover to make him more in tune with whatever vision they had for him. Instead, WrestleMania 38 gave us a Cody Rhodes who could've walked straight into T&T Stadium from the set of AEW Dynamite.

There was Downstait's Kingdom playing the former AEW EVP to the ring, there was the in-ring attire and entrance jacket that Rhodes has become synonymous with, there was no attempt to cover up the opinion-splitting neck tattoo, and the WWE commentary team weren't shy about regularly referring to Cody by his American Nightmare name.
