10. Zero Hour: Jack Perry Vs. HOOK - FTW Title Match

In a match that will be forever overshadowed, HOOK defeated Jack Perry for the FTW title. It was uneven. Great when it rocked, but uneven.

They brawled up the ramp and, paying off the build, worked some cool spots with the car in which Perry made his entrance. Perry drove HOOK through the windshield and bragged about it, drawing the ire of CM Punk backstage. Or, maybe a pissy shoulder barge did. Nobody knows, and even fewer care about this match in retrospect. While very good, as a referendum on Perry's heel character, it was...not a success.

Teasing the Van Terminator of all moves and instead telling the crowd to f*ck off was a tremendous update on that modern heel bit - there are few moves a crowd would want to see more, and he'd done Rolling Thunder so it was certain he'd do it - but elsewhere, the crowd was never quieter than when Perry worked a long and uninteresting heat sequence. They weren't exhausted, either. It was the second match. They just didn't care.

They did get up for HOOK and his annihilation of Perry. Every suplex drew a pop. Ultimately, though, Perry is lost. He had to turn heel but the turn didn't take.

He isn't perceived as a prospective headliner.

Star Rating: ★★★½
