11 Things We Learned From WWE 24: Kofi Kingston

5. A Coded Message

By 2014, Kofi Kingston had been on WWE's books for the best part of a decade, but was still nowhere close to his stated ambitions of becoming a top champion, instead reduced to a perennially entertaining but ineffectual loser and annual Royal Rumble spot monkey.

Wife Chi Chi notes that Kofi is perpetually mellow, rarely complaining, but says that even she could sense his frustrations as he repeatedly saw newer (and, it's implied, less deserving) guys clamber over his shoulders on the ladder to the top (it's no coincidence that we see footage of Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger at this point).

Kofi admits he was beginning to consider his options by this point, before delivering a message which remarkably remained in the edit, given the company's current climate. "It's an honour and a privilege to be a WWE superstar," he says, "but if you're not happy and thriving, you should probably be doing something else." He must have been talking to Jon Moxley.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
