11 Things WWE Got Right With UK Championship Tournament

6. Jordan Devlin

At the end of night one, Jordan Devlin was considered one of the few disappointments of the tournament to that point. The Irishman was controversially successful in his first round match against Danny Burch, but the match was dragged down somewhat by Devlin's fondness for chinlocks and fairly mundane offence. Much had been made of Devlin's links to Finn Bálor before the tournament, and that comparison was only going to lead to disappointment.

Night two saw a much improved performance by Devlin in a loss against Tyler Bate, but it became clearer just what Devlin's role was. In a tournament full of strong style wrestlers and technical prowess, Devlin was the 'WWE Guy' in the middle of it all. There was a sense that he could win it all, in similar circumstances to TJ Perkins' win in the Cruiserweight Classic. Devlin was the red herring.

He showed enough to suggest that he could well find himself at the WWE Performance Center sooner rather than later. With a good look and decent heel mannerisms, the future could be very bright indeed for Devlin. They did miss a trick by not having him interrupt Finn Bálor, however.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
