11 Things WWE Got Wrong In 2017
1. Jinder Mahal And The WWE Championship
Well, at least they tried.
Despite having one of the lowest win percentages on the entire roster, Jinder Mahal found himself positioned as number one contender to the WWE Championship following his move to SmackDown Live. The Modern Day Maharaja went on to do the unthinkable and dethrone Randy Orton as champ, thanks in no small part to his two cronies, the Singh Brothers.
Just weeks after being embarrassed by Mojo Rawley and Rob Gronkowski, WWE fans were supposed to accept that Jinder Mahal was the top guy on Tuesday nights. Not a single person bought it, and the whole situation wasn’t helped by Jinder’s repetitive promos and plodding matches. The whole thing was a mess from the very start, and no amount of cool entrances can change that.
Jinder Mahal’s reign as WWE Champion did a huge amount of damage to that previously prestigious title, and was largely responsible for the creative nosedive that SmackDown Live experienced over the summer. It will go down in history as one of the worst title reigns in history, one that benefited not a single person.
WWE could well be about to make the same mistake twice, as Jinder is set to challenge AJ Styles for the title at Clash of Champions. Will Jinder Mahal begin 2018 as the WWE Champion? 2017 has been a ridiculously bizarre year, but Mahal’s rise to the top remains the strangest aspect of the 12 months.
It was also WWE’s biggest mistake of the year.
