11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

3. MJF & Jungle Boy Go Old School

Before Double or Nothing hit the airwaves, MJF claimed he wanted Jungle Boy to give him a good fight because he is “bored.” Having been forced to watch stablemate Marko Stunt get tormented by a bullying ‘Salt of the Earth,’ then quickly put away after his first hint of offense, Jack Perry did more than that: he gave MJF the fight of his life.

"Fun midcard scrap" looked like this bout's ceiling before Double or Nothing. Jungle Boy and MJF smashed right through that. This was a timeless layout executed well and elevated by Perry's unreal athleticism and the duo's modern bumping style, with MJF showing that while he is a classicist at heart (most of his performance here was pure '80s territory heel), he has one foot in the future as well.

Measured, patient, and brimming with character, this was the kind of clash you'd expect on an old NWA supercard. It relied more on classic tropes like MJF's fake injury spot and sound limb work than heavy bombs, which were only dropped sparingly. It even closed on a series of reversals, with MJF the rightful winner, rolling Jungle Boy's shoulders to the mat for another elevatory triumph.

This style of wrestling will never not rule. Props to these guys for creating something unlike anything else on the card.
