11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

10. Party Crashers

Best Friends
AEW

The Buy In pre-show was the only logical spot for a match with no story build, ahead of which the participants hadn’t crossed paths with each other once on air. It was engineered through the rankings system. The most recent set had Best Friends and number one and Private Party at three, split by The Dark Order’s Evil Uno and Stu Grayson, who are currently stuck in Canada due to the ongoing global health crisis. Makes sense that they’d meet for a Tag Team Title shot, right?

They kept it slow early on. The opening’s tentative, exploratory exchanges eased off through Marq Quen’s athleticism and Trent chopping him to the deck. Trent lost his headband (“the source of his power” - Excalibur) soon after and looked impressive throughout. With Cody and Tony Khan bigging him up in the media lately, perhaps a concerted effort is being made to feature him.

Some sloppiness aside, this was a fine match with an effort level above its card position, featuring one particularly heartening moment as Private Party busted out Cryme Tyme’s old G9 move to go with their “SD” armbands. Best Friends’ Strong Zero on Quen finished it off after Isiah Kassidy’s head met the ring post.
