11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (29 Sep)

1. A Fitting Night

Brodie Lee
AEW

This was perfect.

Distilling professional wrestling down to its mechanical parts is a boring way to look at an artform that is nothing without emotion. This is particularly true of this Hardy Family Office vs. The Dark Order and Orange Cassidy 16-man tag, which was the biggest and most heartfelt Brodie Lee tribute on the show. John Silver was tremendous in the popping closing stretch, yes, and Cassidy's issues with Hardy and Jack Evans were advanced, but this is immaterial.

Jon Huber is what mattered here. When Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, and Colt Cabana left ringside, bickering with their brethren on this of all nights, they were stopped atop the ramp by Anna Jay, Tay Conti, Jon's son, Brodie, and his wife, Amanda. Confronted by those closest to Jon, their petty squabbles were laid bare. None of that stuff mattered. It never mattered, but Uno and co. were too caught up in it to realise, but when they did realise, it pulled at the corners of the mouth, welled the eyes, and warmed the heart.

-1 celebrating atop his favourite wrestler's shoulders against a backdrop of signs for his father was the most fitting tribute to a life snuffed out far too soon. No Hangman Page return, Windham Rotunda debut, or anything else could have compared to this. It was hard, raw, and emotional, but celebratory as well.

So yes.

Perfect.

Jon Huber forever.
