11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Fyter Fest 2021 Night 1

8. Another White-Hot Super Elite Vs. Dark Order Segment

First, an analysis of the angle.

Hangman Page was set to be interviewed by Tony Schiavone before the Super Elite interrupted, various members of which cut scathing, hilarious promos on him.

In a glorious continuation of the Elite's transcendent long, long-term storytelling, Matt Jackson - the member of the stable who in February 2020 loathed Page most on a personal level - confronted him in the ring. In a glorious continuation of the Young Bucks: Biggest D*ckweeds on the Planet gimmick, Matt did the unbelievably obnoxious pee-yew-your-breath-stinks bit. His "You're going to be the next wrestling tragedy line" was phenomenal; it was dark, but non-specific enough to not scan as exploitative.

Page has broadened the appeal of his act at the ideal time, in another illustration of just how next-level all of this is. He believes in himself just as there's a massive roaring echo of that belief, but certain, nuanced moments cast that in doubt.

The fans went apesh*t for the brawl Page incited and the Dark Order neutralised, and what's seriously impressive is that this went long - two verbal segments bookended a wild melee - and every single fan was on the hook for all of it.

It all built towards, Jesus Christ Almighty...
