11 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Double Or Nothing 2022
4. Death Triangle vs. House Of Black
House of Black came out for their match with Death Triangle painted-up like black metallers Gorgoroth. Never shy of hiding their metal and hardcore influences, this was the trio's most terrifying look yet ahead of a bomb-heavy bout with PAC, Rey Fenix, and Penta Oscuro.
This was as advertised, which is to say it was sensational. Everybody worked out of their skins and found ways of imparting their respective styles in a crowded setting. The strikes were snapping and crisp, the multi-person sequences well-coordinated but never anything less than organic, and the power moves shook the ring. Primarily, these came from Brody King, AEW's King of Caveman Style, who has taken to this promotion like an undead duck to thick, blackened water.
Immaculately paced and expertly laid out with bombs on top of bombs, expertly layered to generate increasing levels of noise and drama in the building, this was as good a spotfest as you'll see all year. Even King bumping his shoulders on the apron while taking a dive registered as the hardest thing in the universe when he popped straight up and summoned a guttural roar. Like the bout's other wonky moments, this did nothing to disrupt the flow.
Julia Hart's turn was completed by the finish. Spitting back mist into PAC's eyes after the lights had cut out, her interjection will prove divisive. Nonetheless, it came at the end of a 15-minute beatdown hardcore album of a wrestling match.
