11 Wrestlers Who Waited The Longest To Win A World Title

Edge’s path to world title glory followed something of a more traditional path.

After debuting on the 22 June 1998 showing of Raw, Edge went on to form one of the most successful partnerships of all time when teaming with his best bud, Christian. Together, the pair won an incredible seven World Tag Team Championships in the space of a single year, before Edge’s victory at the 2001 King of the Ring tournament led to the team’s dissolution shortly after.

Still, Edge continued to enjoy just as much success in his singles career, helping himself to five Intercontinental and one United States Championship, as well as being involved in some memorable angles with WWE legends, such as his alliance with Hulk Hogan and his feud with Mick Foley.

The world title remained out of reach, though, until his big break finally arrived at WrestleMania 21 when he won the first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match. Eight months later, he cashed in on a wounded John Cena at New Year’s Revolution 2006, ending a wait of 2757 days for the company’s top title.

Despite arriving in shady circumstances, having spent seven-and-a-half years earning his stripes, Edge’s first world championship win was thoroughly deserved.
