12 Great Wrestling Matches You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

8. Triple H vs. Steve Austin (WWF No Mercy 1999)

Much like Steve Austin and The Rock, 'Stone Cold' and Triple H have had a plethora of memorable matches. Many of those bouts are ones WWE have celebrated, such as the '3 Stages Of Hell' battle from No Way Out 2001. Others, such as their very first one-on-one main event at No Mercy 1999, have been put to the back of the promotion's mind. In 1999, the then-WWF actually promoted 2 different No Mercy events. In May, an event of the same name was held in the UK. On that show, Austin and Triple H did square off in the main event, but The Undertaker was also involved. It was in October that the duo would clash head-to-head without distraction, in a match billed as 'Anything Goes'. Triple H was the reigning WWF Heavyweight Champ, looking to defend against the more popular 'Rattlesnake'. The result was a terrific brawl, but it's not one that's readily discussed at length today. In fact, there's a good chance that a lot of younger wrestling fans have even missed the bout entirely when looking back at older events. Late-1999, despite falling in the 'Attitude Era', was not great for match quality. This was an exception, but it remains curiously out of sight and out of mind.
