Kofi Kingston's elimination escapes have been narrative-bending highlights of several recent Royal Rumbles, but a subversion of the spot should this year signal the beginning of the end for one of the company's most beloved acts.

Having fallen out of title favour on SmackDown Live! despite their continued contributions to quality contests, The New Day find themselves almost exactly where they were a year ago on Monday Night Raw.

Directionless ahead of WrestleMania, they were able to 'host' the show in place of a significant programme before the blue brand draft bought them another year of unicorn and pancake-based craic.

The Royal Rumble should mark the kickoff of their breakup proper after last year's near miss. Drunk on the spirit of competition, Kofi will throw Xavier Woods and Big E as they galavant too close to the ropes. He'll then be thrown a minute later, only to land in the waiting arms of compadres for, ostensibly, his latest escape. Instead, they drop him flat. Kingston is gone, as too is the soul of the famed triumvirate.
