And of course, we close with the most notable non-North American WWE title change: the British Bulldog defeating cousin Bret “Hitman” Hart for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam 1992.

The title match was the main event of SummerSlam that year, and it lived up to expectations, mainly due to Hart’s ability to carry Davey Boy to an incredible match. It was the kind of storyline you expected, with the Bulldog enjoying immense popularity in the UK, so he was the immense fan favorite.

Thankfully, the WWF didn’t resort to a popular motif they use many other times, with the hometown hero losing. In this case, Bulldog reversed a sunset flip attempt for the pinfall and the championship in what was probably his biggest victory, and one of the biggest title changes to take place outside North America.
