2. Vince McMahon And Ted Turner
Wrestling versus "rasslin." Ultimately, that was the issue that pushed the "feud" between Vince McMahon and Ted Turner. When Vince's insistence on pushing a less blood and guts and southern-dominated style of pro wrestling eventually ate away at the market share of the National Wrestling Alliance, Ted buying the NWA and re-christening it as "WCW" wasn't really concerning to Vince. Ted was buying "rasslin," and Vince had killed "rasslin." However, when Ted purchased all of Vince's top "wrestlers" and WCW muted the influence of blood and guts and southern-dominated "rasslin" in its product, he became a competitor. Vince's decision to adopt ECW's mix of 21st century high-flying and "rasslin" was what was needed to neuter Ted Turner's adaption of Vince's classic "wrestling" model, and eventually put WCW out of business for good. The Attitude Era was amazing because it truly showcased just how hell-bent Vince McMahon is on being the ONLY game in town. He beat a company with unlimited resources by killing his own invention that his incredibly gifted competition stole. After killing his competition, he's sadly competed with himself to the point where he's simultaneously globally branded his product while also over-saturating the world with it and driving down the market value of his own creation. Now, he's reinventing WWE again and looking to eventually watch profits soar again, too. Incredible.
