"Bigger! Better! Baaaaaadddddder!"

Truer words were never wailed by Vince McMahon the promoter and presenter describing the monumental main event of WrestleMania III. An event almost immune to superlatives that effectively sold its size, McMahon's alliterative assault was as good as any.

It was definitely bigger - WrestleMania 2's three venues combine didn't house the disputed (but still enormous) mass of humanity inside Detroit's Pontiac Silverdome. Thanks mostly to Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat's show-stealer alone it was inarguably better. And the Hulk/Andre showdown was indeed badder (sic) than 'The Hulkster's choice skirmishes at the first two incarnations of the 'Show Of Shows'. Not as if it even mattered - Hogan/Andre's hard work was done before the bell had even rang.

Dripping in history that's being made as its happening, Hogan and Andre's face-off was amongst the most stunning in wrestling history, as was the humongous powerslam that a generation of performers claim to be the moment they knew their life's calling.

It being Hogan, there's obviously been three decades of hyperbole to try and spoil the battle's legitimate legendary status, but this is a rare case where they hype is to be believed - Vince McMahon could have filled a half-ton bathtub of cash all the way to the taps, brother. Even if he'd died from the impact a couple of days later.
