7. The Stunner To Mae Young
Wrestling got silly in 2003.
Was Stone Cold villainous or entertaining for stunning an 80 year old lady in the middle of a wrestling ring, or was he a first class entertainer? The answer was never fully clear. This might have been because people tried their level best to forget this even happened.
By default this is savage. It's true that Austin had a history of stunning everyone, and that Mae Young had a morbidly engrossing history of being attacked, but merging the two together probably didn't need to happen... and yet it did. The intention was obviously to inject some humour into the programme, but instead it instigated a gasp for breath from most viewers. It was kind of hard to derive Austin's thinking behind this one.
However, at the end of the day, it was kayfabe, and credit to Mae Young for putting herself up for the segment... time and time again. The long-standing legend of wrestling was in on all of these acts. We all remember her run in with the Dudley Boyz. Tough aint the word.
