12 Superstars Vince McMahon Broke The WWE Bank For

12. Goldberg - $1 Million Per Year For Part Time Dates

Bill Goldberg is one of the best examples of a wrestler who Vince McMahon broke WWE's pay structure for. The norm at the time was million dollar deals only for full time main eventers. But Goldberg didn't want to work full time in WWE, and he had leverage in that he could make great money for a few dates in Japan. He also had leverage in that he'd been on $2 million a year in WCW, so he was already taking a pay cut in some respects. McMahon was unsure, but in the end wanted Goldberg badly enough to offer an unprecedented one year million dollar deal for limited dates. At the end of the day, this was WCW's biggest self made star. Seeing him in the WWE was a must. So in Goldberg came, with his million dollars and limited dates, and even getting to work a couple of Japan dates while under WWE contract! He rarely did house shows and also got a world title run out of the deal. Needless to say, the locker room resentment was magnificent. From the first day he stepped foot in WWE, people were hoping for him to fail. He lasted one year and retired after WrestleMania 20.
