4. Making Rey Mysterio Look Great At The 2006 Royal Rumble
Though Vince McMahon was apparently unhappy with Rey Mysterio's Royal Rumble 2006 victory, it did provide WWE with a sometimes-rare feelgood moment going into Wrestlemania season. After losing his best friend Eddie Guerrero, Mysterio's path was set and his ascent to the championship picture became a journey that took the entire WWE Universe along for the ride. When it came to the Royal Rumble, Mysterio entered at the #2 position, following Triple H at #1. Putting aside any notions about Mysterio's run with the World Heavyweight Championship or his time in the main event, the Rumble match was booked spectacularly. Both Mysterio and Triple H spent over an hour in the ring that night, with Triple H being the penultimate man to be eliminated, shortly before Randy Orton. Triple H did a great job that night, as the unproven main eventer in Mysterio needed someone that he could work with and bounce off of, and he helped make the Master of the 619 look awesome. Within the first 20 minutes, the two enjoyed many spells of one-on-one wrestling in between random entrants and eliminations, before finally branching off to take on the rest of the field later on. As the match was coming to a close, Mysterio managed to eliminate Hunter, who proceeded to throw him into the steel steps for his troubles. With a guy as small as Mysterio, it really did pay to have that extra touch of one more hurdle to jump over to achieve his victory, and Triple H's involvement was imperative to that.
