12 Times Vince McMahon's Plans Blew Up In His Face

6. Who Killed Mr. McMahon?

In 2007, the 61-year-old Vince McMahon was ready to take a break from WWE television - and create a new star in the process. Following "Vince McMahon Appreciation Night" on Raw - a show that saw longtime friends and associates of McMahon verbally pillory the WWE Chairman - a despondent Vince sullenly left the arena and entered his limousine... which then exploded. McMahon was presumed dead, and a whodunit storyline was set to dominate Raw for the next several months. While one can debate the merits of taking McMahon off TV only to make the programming revolve around him, the idea was to create a new top heel in WWE - Ken Kennedy, who was going to be revealed as having helped McMahon fake his own death. Two weeks after the explosion, a funeral was scheduled for Raw, but earlier that day, news broke of the deaths of Chris Benoit and his family. Though the details of the deaths were not yet known, McMahon abandoned the storyline to appear on Raw and address WWE fans regarding the real-life tragedy. Perhaps a less outlandish idea would have weathered even the worst external circumstances.
