12 Times Vince McMahon's Plans Blew Up In His Face
7. Roman Reigns
Never let it be said that Vince McMahon doesn't look to the future - just let it be said that he's not very good at it. For years, McMahon has looked for a successor for John Cena, and he seemed to have found it in Roman Reigns - a talented, good-looking star with a subtle charisma and a family that's royalty in the wrestling world. Certainly, Reigns wasn't a bad choice. Unfortunately, an injury derailed Reigns's momentum, and by the time he returned, wrestling fans had moved on - Reigns's former partner, Dean Ambrose, took his slot in a feud with Seth Rollins, and in the process he became one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster. When Reigns's months-long absence saw him leapfrog Ambrose, fans began to turn on him. In response, McMahon made Reigns his personal project, scripting promos for the hand-picked star that were more silly than cool and earned him even more jeers from the crowd. Reigns won the Royal Rumble at the expense of Daniel Bryan, which pushed him firmly into "hated" territory. By the time WrestleMania XXXI rolled around, WWE couldn't risk putting the title on the supposed savior of the company. Instead, Seth Rollins left the event as champion.
