12 Times Wrestlers Failed To Make It Into The Royal Rumble Match

5. Finlay - 2008

The 2008 Rumble is best remembered for John Cena's shocking return at number 30 (what a lucky draw!), so many may well have forgotten Hornswoggle entering at number 9 and spending the majority of the match under the ring. The Little Bastard briefly returned to eliminate The Miz, but this only led to him falling into the hands of Mark Henry and Big Daddy V.

The two behemoths began dissecting the tiny human, and all looked lost for 'Swoggle'. It was too much for his papa to take, and Finlay ran down to ringside to save his seed. The Belfast Brawler was scheduled to be the next entrant into the match (the historically successful number 27 spot), but conceded his chance at immortality in favour of saving his son.

Finlay was disqualified from the match, but Hornswoggle was never actually eliminated. The next name on this list may have had a legitimate gripe about his fate in the Rumble, but almost a decade later Hornswoggle is yet to speak up about the travesty of justice that was his 2008 Royal Rumble.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
